Locally
Innerleithen is located near the junction of Leithen Water which tumbles past our back garden, and the River Tweed just 5 minutes walk from innerhaven, in the eastern part of Tweeddale.
Although it’s a small picture postcard town, it has all the essential amenities, but none of the hustle (or hassle!) and bustle of a large town or city. For that, you are only fifty minutes drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow, and just two hours from Newcastle and Carlisle.
A stay at innerhaven means you are within easy reach of the scenic town of Peebles (6 miles) and Galashiels (12 miles) with an abundance of interesting shops, cafe’s, restaurants, swimming pool, and cinema.
Innerleithen has a reputation for antique and second hand book shops, and you’re only a short walk from the bakers (try the crispy cakes!), and you’ll easily find the supermarket, cafe (the Latte’s are amazing!), take aways, chemist, health centre, post office and a selection of pubs.
You’re probably getting the picture - Innerleithen makes a perfect base from which to explore the Borders. With an excellent bus service throughout the Tweed Valley - linking all the best local attractions - it retains easy access to Edinburgh, whilst managing to feel far far away from the capital city.
Innerleithen is an excellent centre for golf (innerhaven is just 3 minutes drive from the local course), fishing and walking – the town being a stop-off on the coast to coast Southern Upland Way route. It boasts some of the world’s best mountain biking with internationally renowned cross country and downhill trails just five minutes from the house.
And if you fancy a shindig, Innerleithen enjoys a busy events calendar– throughout the year you can enjoy many musical, cultural and sporting events. All in all, as well as being a great place to relax, it’s a hive of activity and an excellent base from which to uncover a wealth of adventure, culture and history.
